I Believe This…

This page and associated posts linked by tags and categories is created to share with others what I believe, without the confusion of entangling proofs and supporting texts. I am not attempting to convince you. I do not wish to change your mind or oppress your opinion. I respect you, my readers and friends, too much to infringe upon your knowledge and reason. If we differ on an opinion, you may be right and I wrong, OR the reverse may be true. But there is a third possibility, at least, and that is that both of us are in different places of progress in our journey through life. I see this as most likely and hope that by sharing what we have discovered on our journey we may help someone else on their journey and in so doing, perhaps clear some brush from along side our own path. This will enable us to continue to progress and have fellowship along the way.

Truth is very important for each of us. Truth, by its very nature is certain, infinite, and concrete. It is also universal and unchanging. I would encourage us all to seek, find and embrace truth. It is foundational for our life. However, there is a caution. We must be certain that it is truth that we have found and embraced. There is a similarity between finding truth and finding edible mushrooms. All mushrooms are fungi, but not all fungi are mushrooms. Most trips into the forest will find mushrooms of many sorts, yet not all of them are edible. Some mushrooms will kill you and it is hard for the novice to tell the difference. Likewise, there are many voices in the world clamoring for our attention and they are not all telling the truth. There are uncountable numbers of books on almost any topic you may wish, but just because it is in print, doesn’t make it true. In the early 1970’s, I found a book that was published in the early days of WW II. The author persuasively proved to his readers that Benito Mussolini was the prophesied Anti-Christ. The author was very sincere, but sincerely wrong because Mussolini died at thirty years of age in 1945.

There is a way to verify truth. I present the idea of tasting and seeing from Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Also there is a similar verse, Malachi 3:10, “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Try or test what you are seeing by comparing it to the Word of God, the Bible.

You and I, will ultimately, be held responsible for what we believe and do. So, please know what you believe (accurately) and what you do. Let’s help each other on this journey that is life.
